Student of the Month - April
Hector Estupiñan
Our April Student of the Month is Hector Estupiñan. Hector, who is from Mexico, is currently enrolled in four different ESL Level 1 classes. His participation, work ethic, and sense of humor have helped make him a well-known and likable student with his classmates and instructors. Although he works third shift at his job, he can be found every morning sitting in the hallways perusing through his dictionary while waiting for classes to begin. Since coming to the Adult Education Center in September, Hector’s strong desire to learn, consistent attendance, and willingness to speak English have helped him tremendously with the advancement of his English skills.
Hector enjoys taking his son to the park, studying English, and watching romance movies. He says that he really likes going to school because he loves to learn new words and he enjoys visiting with his classmates. Hector studies English because he wants to play a significant role in his son’s education. He plans to continue studying English and eventually become an English teacher.
The Student of the Month is chosen by individual instructors. Each instructor is allotted one student of the month for the year. This makes it very difficult to choose because there are many students that the instructor would like to see have an award.
The award is based on the three “A’s”, Attendance, the students overall attendance to AEC classes, Attitude, the students attitude about their learning, and Advancement, the students advancement on their individual school related goals.
A Student of the Month plaque and a dozen cinnamon rolls are presented to every Student of the Month. These awards are provided by our Partner in Education, Pharis Broadcasting, which owns “Kool Oldies 104.7” radio station, Custom Awards & Engraving as well as other businesses in the area. Huge thanks to Pharis Broadcasting for providing these awards.
